It is I, your friendly neighborhood MMA daily fantasy expert, here to regale you with stories of who to f-ing put in your lineup this weekend. The UFC heads to Lincoln, Nebraska this Saturday for what isn’t necessarily an incredible card. However, there are enough fun matchup *cough* Vick-Gaethje *cough* that it feels like a super card in this five week long period with only one UFC event.
The main card kicks off at 10pm eastern on Fox Sports 1, while the prelims start at 8pm, on FS2. The early pre-lims start at 6:30pm on Fight Pass.
I use DraftKings for my UFC daily fantasy fix, so if you don’t have an account you can sign up here (and get a 50% bonus on your initial deposit). Also, you can check out the scoring criteria here.
Now let’s get down to business.
Value Picks
- The aforementioned Justin Gaethje ($7,600) is your value pick of the week. Has he lost two fights in a row? Yes. Has his style allowed him to average about 60 DFS points in those losses? Yes. Is Vick the same kind of matchup that Alveraz or Poirier provided? No. Eddie and Dustin had to go through hell to KO the king of violence. Vick is super talented, but we haven’t seen him in that kind of war yet. Gaethje ain’t done yet, and even if he is, he get his points in before going down.
- John Moraga ($7,800) is former title contender who, with the recent dethronement of Mighty Mouse, could be one again with a win here. His opponent, Deiveson Figueiredo, is a good prospect with some crazy power in his offense. However, Moraga knows how to exploit openings, and Figueiredo’s wild style should supply plenty of those. At less than $8k this is a no-brainer.
Avoid
- Warlley Alves ($9,300) isn’t far removed from his top prospect status, and should probably win his fight here against jack-of-all-trades James Krause. However, I envision this fight as a slow burn, meaning not a lot of DFS points to go around. Let’s avoid that plus $9k price-tag for a fight where the winner could easily score less than 70 DFS points.
- So I’m actually picking Cory Sandhagen ($9,000) to win this fight, but it is a pick’em. Iuri Alcantara is a gatekeeper of sorts, but one with an offensively potent and athletic game. Can Cory handle it? Probably. Should it be fun? Yes. Am I spending $9k on a pick’em fight? No.
