UFC 234 Daily Fantasy Picks

Hey look, y’all! Robert Whittaker is fighting in Melbourne! And it’s not against Yoel Romero!

Yep, the middleweight champ is fighting in his home country against erstwhile welterweight contender and current middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum. Besides that, the card honestly doesn’t bring much (aside from a probable Last Stylebender destruction of the Spider), but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun.

I use DraftKings for my UFC daily fantasy fix, so if you don’t have an account you can sign up here (and get a 50% bonus on your initial deposit). Also, you can check out the scoring criteria here. Now let’s get down to business.

Value Picks

  • Teruto Ishihara ($6,800) is super cheap. Sure, he hasn’t won since September 2017, and sure, his style is pretty one-dimensional. But that one dimension is knockout hunting. Kyung Ho Kang is the favorite for a reason, but his defensive weaknesses provide an ample enough opening to take a flier on an Ishihara KO.
  • Dong Hyun Ma ($7,600), the artist formerly known as Dong Hyun Kim, has somewhat reinvented himself of late. And while he is not as aggressive as he once was, he still has the broad skill set to win this weekend’s fight against Devonte Smith no matter where it goes. Smith does have serious power in his hands, but Ma’s chin and veteran savvy should keep him standing.

Avoid

  • The aforementioned Devonte Smith ($8,800) can be found here. As mentioned, he is some brutal fight-ending power, but Ma is just simply the better mixed martial artist. Would I be shocked if Smith won by KO? Not necessarily. It is, however, a narrow path to victory for that price.
  • Why is the price for Jonathan Martinez ($8,500) above $8K? I have no idea. His opponent, Wuliji Buren is nothing exceptional, but neither is Martinez. And it’s not like this fight promises fireworks of any king. Just avoid it all together.
