A New Year’s Special UFC 207 “Fight Breakdown” Feat. Robin Black

Ep. 47

Welcome to a special New Year’s edition of BBYK, where we talk about UFC 207 and what fans can look forward to in 2017! We are excited to be joined by Fight Network’s Robin Black, and reveled in the opportunity to pick his brain about all things MMA. If conversations are a journey, a chat with Robin Black feels something akin to a cross-country road trip. Along the different stops, we try to answer some the hard hitting questions. Like, what is a fight breakdown? Is it time for fight breakdowns to evolve as the language surrounding them continues to evolve? Are fight breakdowns basically all bullsh*t? Tune in to our UFC 207 (not-quite-a) “fight breakdown” to find out!

Do analysts make the best fighters? How crazy is it that four(!) UFC champions analyze fights for Fox, and none of them had their current belts before their analyst gig? With this being Mike Goldberg’s final event, we look at how the UFC will respond, especially with Joe Rogan’s impending retirement being hinted at. After Cain Velasquez was pulled from his match with Fabricio Werdum, does AKA need to retool their training, or are their training methods the secret sauce when it comes to producing #ChampionshipLevelChili, errr… fighters? Fans across the internet are questioning AKA’s training staff, and Robin is here to tell everyone to just slow their roll.

Do certain fighters get special treatment? Do fighters become “stars” with extra exposure (or “push” according to Nate Diaz) from the UFC, or is there something truly unique about these individuals we’ve identified as stars. We discuss the meteoric rise of Connor McGregor, and how he is truly a one-of-kind mixture of a super star persona and super star fighting capabilities. We also chat about the art of trash talking, and why guys like McGregor and Cruz seem to have lapped the field.
Also, how good is Dominick Cruz? We are so pumped for the co-main event fight between him and Cody Garbrandt, and we expect some poetic violence! In the main event we have the return of the former QUEEN of the UFC, Ms. Ronda Rousey. After her dethroning at the hands of Holly Holm, three separate women have worn the belt. The UFC usually markets their events with manly, if not gender neutral, tags like “destruction” or “mayhem.” #UFC207 is simply “She’s Back,” and we are not referring to Amanda Nunes. After refusing to do any media, where is Rousey mentally? These questions are answered and more… do not miss this episode!
