It’s finally here. The money fight of all money fights as MMA superstar Conor McGregor crosses sports to take on the undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather in his own ring.
Nobody cares how much you’ve protested all summer long that “it’s just a promotional stunt”, and “it’s not a real fight”.
Whatever, homes. We know that you’re tuning in with your bros on Saturday night. So you might as well make this thing even more enjoyable with a little side action – get those bets on! Not only can you go for the tried and true “who gets their hand raised”, but there are plenty of prop bets to entertain us as well, a few of which I will run through.
All odds seen below are from Bovada and current as of August 23.
WHO WILL WIN?
Floyd Mayweather (-400) vs. Conor McGregor (+300)
These are some of the best value odds for Floyd Mayweather in the last 7 years. Only his fights with Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez provided a better value for a bet on Money Mayweather. A 25% return is nothing to sneeze at, but it also isn’t too sexy. Safe bet is safe, however, and if you’re going to be putting money on Mayweather at anytime in your life this is probably the time to do it.
Conor, on the other hand, offers a sexier return on investment. So if you’re going small money, why not have some fun and throw $20 on the MMA champ? Except, don’t just fall for the straight bet of Conor winning, bet instead on how Conor will win. BBYK has already informed you that Conor will not win be decision, and you get better odds if you bet on a Conor win by TKO (+800) or KO (+400). If you really want to go “safe” on a Conor bet, betting on a win by by KO, TKO or DQ still nets you +325, so a little better than just the straight “win” bet.
Bottom line – for a good time, call Conor by TKO or by KO.
WILL EITHER FLOYD MAYWEATHER OR CONOR MCGREGOR GET KNOCKED DOWN OR OUT?
Yes (-400) vs. No (+250)
If you’re betting on Conor to win by KO or TKO, this seems like an obvious add-on prop bet.
WILL FLOYD MAYWEATHER GET KNOCKED DOWN OR OUT?
Yes (+230) vs. No (-350)
Another obvious add-on prop with decent value.
WHO WILL RECORD MORE KNOCKDOWNS?
Floyd Mayweather (-120) vs. Conor McGregor (+350)
Once again, if we are going with the theory that Conor is winning this fight, you would have to assume that he has the majority of knockdowns… Even if he loses, it is hard to see Floyd knocking down Conor more than once.
WILL FLOYD MAYWEATHER VS CONOR MCGREGOR BREAK MAYWEATHER VS PACQUIAO PPV BUY RECORD?
Yes (-600) vs. No (+400)
Mayweather-Pacquiao hit 4.6 million PPV buys, and the interest in this crossover fight is clearly close to that level, just based off of betting numbers so far. However, 4.6 million PPV buys is a lot of PPV buys. The UFC doesn’t release official numbers, but estimates show that Conor has never broken 2 million buys in his UFC career.
Honestly, I would bet on whichever has the more valuable odds on this prop, which just so happens to be “No”.
WILL JUSTIN BIEBER WEAR SUNGLASSES DURING THE WALKOUT?
Yes (-220) vs. No (+180)
The odds do not provide great value, but Bieber has worn shades for almost all of his walkouts with Mayweather.
WILL LIL WAYNE WEAR A SHIRT DURING THE WALKOUT?
Yes (-200) vs. No (+160)
‘Lil Wayne doesn’t like shirts, give me “No” for the money.
WILL CONOR MCGREGOR DO THE “BILLIONAIRE STRUT” DURING WALKOUT?
Yes (-270) vs. No (+200)
Casual fans assume that he will, but Conor has never done the billi strut on his way to the cage. I know that this Saturday’s fight is different from his previous clashes, but I would not bet on seeing the billi strut before Conor steps into the ring. Give me “No” at +200.
